About Me

Hello, my name is Ksenya Kiebuzinski (Ксеня Кебузинська).  My family's roots are in Eastern Galicia (Poland and Ukraine), namely the areas near the cities Przemysl, Sambir, Turka, and Kalush.

My recent research has focused on the names Kiebuz (Кебуз) and Kiebuzinski (Кебузинський).  Growing up, I thought the name was unusual, and since my grandfather died when my father was a child, I assumed that my parents and brothers were the only ones with this last name.  Research has uncovered lots of near and distant "cousins" scattered mostly throughout North America (I have documented every person I can find with this surname).  Ancestors with this name go back at least to the late 18th century.  They primarily came from the countryside around Przemysl, and worked as farmers.  I imagine that as the families became larger, they sought more land and steadily moved southwards along the Wiar River valley from the Przemysl suburbs of Blonie, Przekopana, and Wilcze, to the villages Krowniki, Sielec, and Pikulice.  In the early years of the 20th century, when the population exploded in Galicia, many Kiebuz and Kiebuzinski immigrated to the United States to seek out economic opportunities.  They settled in Hartford, New York City, and Chicago.  Other members who stayed behind found jobs in Przemysl proper as civil servants or professionals.  They were dispersed, either as displaced persons, or as deportees to Ukraine, following the Second World War.  Today there are very few Kiebuz or Kiebuzinski left in Przemysl.

If you share interest in my surname, please send me an email, or leave a comment after any post.  I would love to hear from "cousins" researching this family, especially if you can help connect the dots from one name to another, from one generation to another.
