Koczyrkiewicz family

Koczyrkiewiczy (Кочиркевич) of Khidnovychi (Chodnowice).


My paternal grandmother’s, Volodymyra’s (1. Kiebuzinska, 2. Soroka), father was Ivan Koczyrkiewicz.

My great-grandfather Ivan Koczyrkiewicz descended from a long line of clerical Koczyrkiewiczy of Khidnovychi (Chodnowice):

1. Rev. Ivan (1743-14 July 1811) > 2. Rev. Andrii (1782-24 March 1852, also a parochial school teacher) > 3. Petro (b.  December 1810-?) > 4. Ivan (b. 1 May 1848-d. December 1881, Mistychi) > 5. Ivan (b. ca. 1875 probably in Ostrozhets-d. 31 November 1941, Przemyśl).

1. Born to Ivan (Jan) Koczyrkiewicz (ca. 1743-14 July 1811, Khidnovychi), priest, and Anna-Magdalena Prawecka (ca. 1761-27 Oct. 1820), residing at house no. 9:
  • Eufrozyna (25 Sep. 1784-25 Sep. 1788). Godparents: o. Jan P. Boralycki, Anna of Chraplice, Duchowney.
  • Maria (30 Oct. 1787-7 Oct. 1788). Godparents: o. P. Bujowski, Anna of Chraplice, Kondycy Duchownej.
  • Ivan (29 Oct. 1789-24 Sep. 1796). Godparents: o. P. Jendykiewicz of Bojewice, Eufrozyna of Deshychi, o. Semen Krozkowski, Anton Kluczmik, etc.
  • Athanasius (20 Oct. 1792-18 Sep. 1796). Godparents: Anton Koczyrkiewicz, Anna Baczynska (wife of Pavlo of Chraplice)
  • Marianna (3 Aug. 1795-?). Godparents: Anton Koczyrkiewicz Klucznik, Anna Baczynska (wife of pastor in Chraplice). She marries Hryhorii Rewakowicz, an alumnus of the Lviv Theological Academy, age 24, on 2 January 1811. Rev. Rewakowicz (b. 1785, ordained 1811, d. 5 April 1869) served the parish Nienowice from 1828 to 1864.
  • Eufrozyna (Rosalia) (23 Oct. 1798-24 July 1831). Godparents: o. Jan Prawecki, pastor of Pleshevychi?, Anna Celigdowicz? of Boratycze. She marries Iurii (Georgius) Gorczycki (b. ca. 1780s-28 July 1831), an alumnus of Lviv Theological Academy (eventual priest in Baranivtsi), age 28, on 21 November 1815. Witnesses: o. Andrij Borysiewicz and o. Gabriel Borecki. Their children include: Oles (Alexius) (20 March 1820-24 July 1831), Theophilactus (27 May 1822-?); and Victoria (9 Nov. 1823-24 July 1831). Eufrozyna, Iurii, Oles, and Victoria all died in Baranivtsi in July 1831 of cholera.
2. Their oldest son Andrij (ca.1782-24 March 1852), ordained in 1809, also a priest in Khidnovychi, married Rozalia (Eufrozyna) Litynska (ca. 1792–31 Oct. 1833). Andrij’s funeral is presided over by o. Nosalenicz of Bylice. Their children:
  • Petro (b. Dec. 1810-?). Baptized by o. Petro Litynski. Godparents: o. Theodor Oliszanski, Przemysl Dean, Theofila Gorgelowicz, o. Ivan Milanowicz, pastor of Mlyny, Tetianna Litynska.
  • Ivan (14 Dec. 1813-19 July 1814). Godparents: o. Dmytro Poharecki, pastor of Zalisky, Marianna Prorecka, wife of the priest in Nyzhankovychi.
  • Anna (12 May 1815-7 April 1828). Baptized by o. Gabriel Borecki, pastor of Nyzhankovychi. Godparents were the priest and his wife Marianna Borecka.
  • Maria (6 Feb. 1817- ?). Baptized by o. Ivan Oliszanski of Husakiv. Godparents: Hryhorii Poroczynski, Viktoria Jarecka. Maria marries Osyp Lozynskyi (son of o. Ivan Lozynskyi, pastor of Virko, Przemysl district) age 23 on 24 May 1831. They have at least two sons: one (b. 17 Nov. 1833) and Anton (b. 23 July 1835).
  • Omelian (17 Aug. 1819-?). Baptized by o. Andrij Borysiewicz, pastor of Krowniki. Godparents: o. Petro Nazarewicz, Anna Lapicka (wife of Ivan Lapicki, pastor of Boroszow?), o. Mykola Radzikowski of ?, and Anna Borysiewicz (wife of the priest). He marries Khrystyna, daughter of Mathei Turonski and Justya Lyskowacka, both of Lopuszanka, where he has an estate. Their daughter Malvina Antonina is born 18 July 1852 in Khidnovychi. The godparents are Lev and Teresa Lewicki.
  • Semen (14 Feb. 1822-24 Aug. 1873). Baptized by o. Andrij Borysiewicz of Przemysl. Godparents: o. Petro Nazarewicz of Przemysl, o. Mykola Radzikowski, Anna Borysiewicz (wife of priest), Maria Rewakowicz (wife of Hryhorii). He was ordained a priest in 1849 and served the parishes Turie, Sambir district (1849-1851), Iavoriv (1851), Khidnovychi (1851-1853), Chapli, Sambir district (1853-1864), and Krukenychi, Mostyska district (1864-1873). He was married, and his wife passed away in 1858. Their daughter Carolina died in Krukenychi on 18 May 1866 age 16.
  • Andrij (12 July 1825-24 Dec. 1904). Baptized by o. Andrij Borysiewicz of Krowniki and Przemysl. Godparents: o. Mykola Radzikowski, Anna Lapicka (wife of o. Ivan/Andrij Lapicki, pastor of Boroszow?), etc. He was ordained a priest in 1853 and served the parishes Mykhnevets, Turka district (1853-1857), Postoliv, Lisko district (1857-1863), Kryve nad Sianom, Lisko district (1863-1887), and Vyslyk nyzhnyi, Sanok district (1887-1904). He married Honorata Kosach (ca. 1834-2 March 1932, Pidluby, near Iavoriv). Their children include: Mykhailo (17 June 1856, Uherce Mineralne, Lisko district-30 June 1932, Przemysl), Leontii (10 Sep. 1859, Postoliv-d. 1886, Velyki Mosty (Zhovkva district)), and Andrii (b. 1872-?). Mykhailo studied at the Gymnasium in Drohobych with Ivan Franko. He worked as a civil servant-treasurer in Brody, Jaroslav, and Przemysl. Leontii was ordained in 1884 and served briefly as a priest in the Zhovkva district. Andrii was ordained in 1896 and served the parishes of Vyslyk nyzhnyi (1896-1914) and Bruchnal (Iavoriv district) (1914-1939). He had three children: Roman, Evhenia, and Daria.
  • Mykhailo (18 Nov. 1826-7 Nov. 1827). Baptized by o. Andrij Borysiewicz of Krowniki and Przemysl. Godparents: o. Mykhailo Sozanski of Novosilky, Tekla Sziwedzicka, o. Teodor Bomanowicz of Bykiv, Anna Lapicka.
  • Mykhailo (16/17 Sep. 1829-6 Sep. 1905, Przemysl). Godparents: o. Mykhailo Sozanski of Novosilky, Anna Soltykiewicz (wife of pastor in ?). Mykhailo (Michal, Michael) Koczyrkiewicz taught schools in Sanok (from at least 1861-1866) and Przemysl (1868-1900). He began his teaching career in 1853. He retired from teaching in 1900. Koczyrkiewicz was a long time teacher and director of the St. Jadwiga's Girls School. Mykhailo married Karolina Winter (Polish, daughter of Józef Winter, a treasury official in Sanok) on 15 May 1855 in Iavoriv. Their children include: Johanna (1858, Gorlice-?), Józef (19 Jan. 1860, Gorlice-?), Szymon (22 May 1863, Sanok-12 Oct. 1905, Przemysl), and Maryan (17 Sep. 1870, Przemysl-?). Józef worked in some type of legal practice. Szymon was a schoolteacher like his father and taught Ukrainian and physical education in Przemysl. He married twice, sisters: 1) Jadwiga Antonina Iwanicka (7 Aug. 1861-22 May 1894, Przemysl); 2) Zofia Bohdana Iwanicka (ca. 1858-?) on 13 Feb. 1895. They were the daughters of Adam Bohdan Iwanicki and Emilia Dobiecka. Zofia taught French for girls in Przemysl from 1879.

3. Petro Kozyrkiewicz married Viktoria Lewicka (ca. 1830-15 Dec. 1863; daughter of Ivan, a priest in Tekonica/Telwnica/Telesnica?, and Justina Liskowacka). They resided at house no. 4. Their children were:
  • Ivan (b. 1 May 1848, possibly in Tur’ie-d. 2 Dec. 1881, Mystychi). Godparents: o. Osyp Lozincki of Medyka, Teresa Weis Lisnicza, Mykhailo Koczyrkiewicz (son of o. Andrii, brother of Petro).
  • Marianna (b. 1 Feb. 1850- ). Godparents: o. Pavlo Sobalewski, priest of ?, and Teresa Lewicka of Novosilky.

On 6 August 1865, Petro took as his second wife Parasceva Miczkowski (ca. 1840-1850-3 Jan. 1917; daughter of Mykola and Aquilina Rydiok, farmers in Hoszowczyk). The witnesses were Oles Koczyrkiewicz and Semen Talpas. Their children were:

  • Pavlo (b. 24 July 1866). Godparents: Iakiv Koczyrkiewicz, Anna Talpasz.
  • Victoria (b. 7 July 1869). Godparents: Iakiv Koczyrkiewicz, Anna Holowecki.

4. Ivan worked as a school teacher in Ostrozhets (1868-1880) and Mystychi (1880-1881). He married Rozalia Mryc (b. 28 November (10 December) 1852, Bolianovychi). They had three children:
  • Ivan, my great-grandfather (b. 1874, probably in Ostrozhets (Ostrożec), Lviv oblast -d. 31 November 1941, Przemysl)
  • Volodymyr (b. ca. 1878, probably Ostrozhets-d. 16 April 1880, Mystychi)
  • Antonina Evhenia (b. 2 July 1881, Mystychi; later married to Anton Pushkar). Godparents for Antonina Evhenia were: Vasyl [Lurosyszak?], a teacher, and [Sabina?] Krasicka.

5. Ivan married Leontyna (Leontine) Świtąkiewicz (1878-17 May 1946, Dobromyl; parents Władysław and Józefa Lityńska). He worked as a civil servant, in Lviv (1898-1902), and as a school teacher, in Mokriany (1899-1900), Rakova (1902-1906), Trojczyce (1907-1910), Drohojow (1911-1913), and Nehrybka (after World War I, from at least 1920 on). He came to the U.S. for a short while in September 1905. His residence at the time was Mizhenets. His destination was Michal Iwanicki in Allegheny, Pennsylvania. Iwanicki (b. 1884, Hroszówka) arrived in the U.S. in March 1905. It is possible that he was related to the two Iwanicki sisters that married Ivan's great uncle Szymon (see above). Ivan and Leontyna had six children:
  • Maria Stefania (Stefa) (23 April 1903, Sambir-3 June 1971), teacher in Oriv; married Osyp (Iosyp) Bobkovych. They taught together at Łaszki Murowane (Murovane) from 1937. Osyp served as director of the school there from 1946. They had a daughter Maria (married name Bilas).
  • Melania Evhenia (4/5 March 1905, Rakova, Sambir District-29 October 1987), teacher (Dubiecko, 1925-1928; Khyriv, 1950s). Attended 3-grade St. Jadwiga School in Przemysl, and the 2nd State Women's Teacher Training Seminary in Przemysl from 1920-1925.
  • Ivanka (1907-23 March 1976), teacher. Married Mykhailo Chuklynskyi, who had a son named Zenon.
  • Volodymyra, my grandmother (19 January 1909, Drohojow-23 July 1992, Baltimore), teacher and seamstress. Attended the 2nd State Women's Teacher Training Seminary in Przemysl from 1917 to 1924, and the State School of Commerce in Przemyśl in 1926. She taught at the Secondary 3-grade girls' vocational school in Rzeszów in 1935/36.
  • Anna (Hala) (1911, Drohojow-27 April 1984), teacher. Taught at the school in Piatnytsia.
  • Roman (17 January 1914, Drohojow-19 May 1971), POW during WWII (Buchenwald)
During World War II, Leontyna resided in Łaszki Murowane (Murovane), near Khryiv, Sambir District, with her oldest daughter and son-in-law. She is buried in Piatnytsia, north of Khyriv.
